‘Uba Sani is the best thing that has happened to Kaduna’

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central and APC flag bearer for Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Senator Shehu Sani, has taken a swipe at those claiming former Governor Nasir El-Rufai is being persecuted, describing El-Rufai’s administration as one that had no respect for rule of law.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today on the topic “Questions Over El-Rufai’s Detention And Political Claims,” Sani questioned the moral standing of El-Rufai’s sympathizers.

“All those people who are saying that he is being persecuted, he is sent to prison, where were they when he was arresting people and sending them to prison in Kaduna? When he has never for once obeyed court orders in Kaduna? When he has no respect for rule of law? Where were all those people?” Sani queried.

The former lawmaker, who was a strong critic of the El-Rufai administration from 2015 to 2023, said Governor Uba Sani is the best thing that has happened to Kaduna State, contrasting his leadership style with what he described as the “toxic government” of his predecessor.

“Uba Sani is the best thing that has happened to Kaduna at this time for fundamental reasons. He has been able to use the resources of the state for the betterment of the lives of the people,” he said.

According to Sani, Governor Uba Sani has succeeded in building a bridge of peace between the Hausa/Fulani population of Northern Kaduna and the Christians of Southern Kaduna, an area that was previously plagued by ethno-religious crises.

“For the first time we have a governor who was able to build a bridge of peace between those of us Hausa/Fulani from Northern Kaduna and the Christians from the Southern part of the state. There has not been any ethno-religious violence. No Muslim killing Christians, no Christian killing Muslim,” he stated.

He noted that the inclusion of Southern Kaduna indigenes in government and the appointment of a Christian as Deputy Governor shows equity and fairness, which was lacking in the previous administration.

On the 2027 governorship election, Senator Sani expressed confidence that Governor Uba Sani will be re-elected, citing his achievements in health, education and infrastructure.

“Uba, by the grace of Allah, will be re-elected as governor of Kaduna State. Not just a prayer but practically, he has done so many things. Certainly, he has earned the vote and the confidence of the people of Kaduna State,” he added.
