Stop Attacking APC Governors At Project Commissionings, Focus On FCT Residents' Welfare — APC Chieftain Tells Wike

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Yakubu Sani, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of prioritising political attacks over governance and the welfare of Abuja residents.

Sani, who is the founder of the Arewa Mandate Alliance (AMA), said Wike has failed to adequately address key challenges confronting the FCT and should concentrate on the mandate given to him by President Bola Tinubu.

He faulted the minister for turning inauguration ceremonies for roads, bridges and other infrastructure projects in Abuja into platforms to attack APC governors and other political figures working for the same administration.

According to him, Wike's recent criticism of Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, was unnecessary.

"Wike should learn from Uzodimma. The Imo governor is working and organising quietly without abusing anybody. He is concentrating on governance, delivering projects and organising the largest support base for the President," Sani said.

He said every road and bridge commissioned in Abuja should be an opportunity to discuss development, not to denigrate perceived political opponents.

"Every road and bridge commissioned in Abuja should be an opportunity to talk about development, not an occasion to abuse or denigrate perceived obstacles to his unbridled and rabid political ambition," he stated.

Sani warned that Wike's combative rhetoric could overshadow the infrastructure projects being executed under the Tinubu administration and advised him to let his work speak for him.

"President Tinubu gave Wike a job to do in Abuja. He should concentrate on that job. Let the quality of his work speak for him instead of using every commissioning ceremony to attack APC governors who are committed to Tinubu's re-election," he said.

He stressed that governance in the FCT should go beyond roads and bridges to include water supply, public services and welfare of workers.

"While Wike is building roads and bridges, he should also be asking what is happening to the welfare of teachers, healthcare workers and civil servants in the FCT," Sani said.

"You cannot build beautiful roads and bridges and ignore the people who teach our children, treat our sick and run the machinery of the government. Their welfare should also be a priority," he added.

The APC chieftain also raised concerns over inadequate water supply in parts of Abuja, indiscriminate parking and refuse dumps competing with motorists for space on major roads.

"Many FCT residents don't have water, while motorists compete with refuse dumps for space on major roads in the city. This leads to obstruction as vehicles are parked indiscriminately on motorways," he said.

Sani said the minister could strengthen his political standing by focusing on governance rather than political confrontations.

His comments come amid tensions between Wike and some APC governors who accuse him of playing to the gallery.
