Northern Nigeria Treated As Plantation For Votes – Former NHIS Boss Usman Yusuf

Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Usman Yusuf, has criticized northern politicians and residents over the region's worsening insecurity and what he described as lack of accountability.

Speaking recently on Trust TV, Yusuf said northerners have allowed politicians to treat the region as a "plantation for votes" while failing to demand better leadership.

"We, people, do not take ourselves seriously. We allowed the North just to be a plantation for votes, and we allowed irresponsible leadership again and again, both in the military and civil," he said.

Yusuf also expressed concern over the limited attention given to the deaths of 37 illegal mining suspects in the custody of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), while lamenting the wider insecurity ravaging the North.

He urged Nigerians, particularly those in the region, to speak out and demand accountability from their leaders.
